Sights & Sounds of Madagascar

A truly explorative safari through Madagascar. You will have the opportunity to explore the stunning beaches of Ile Sainte Marie as well as the bustling city of Antananarivo and the private reserves of Palmarium and Anjajavy.

Start your magical exploration of Madagascar slow and easy at the beautiful Princesse Bora Lodge with its breathtaking whale watching and tropical beaches. You are then able to move on to the cheeky lemurs of Palmarium where you can get some truly up close and personal experiences. One of the highlights of your trip is exploring the rainforest of Andasibe with its resident howling Indri lemurs. Your final few days are spent at the private nature reserve and luxury Relais and Chateaux beach lodge of Anjajavy.

Day 1


Today you will be met upon arrival into Madagascar by your driver and professional guide who will show you to your private vehicle. A short transfer brings you to the atmospheric centre of Antananarivo and your boutique hotel for the night.

Overnight: Palissandre Hotel

Day 2

Antananarivo - Ile Sainte Marie

You will fly from Tana to Ile Sainte Marie and Princesse Bora Lodge. This is a fantastic location for some beach relaxation and exploration. Located in a palm grove along a white sandy beach this is the perfect place to relax.

Days 3-4

Ile Sainte Marie

Relax for the next few days in this idyllic setting. A variety of activities are possible including diving (PADI lessons are available), snorkelling and simply relaxing by the pool. A highlight of your stay here is the opportunity to go whale watching; during the months of June – September hundreds of humpback whales come to this area for breeding. Up to 15m in length this is a spectacular opportunity to experiences these mammals up close and personal as you visit them with the research team and help them to collect vital research data.

Day 5

Ile Sainte Marie - Palmarium

This morning you set off towards the Pangalanes Canals on the east coast. A truly unique corner of Madagascar where if you’re lucky this private reserve can provide lemurs bouncing across your veranda! The rest of the day is yours at leisure to relax and enjoy the lemurs that live in the trees around the lodge.

Day 6

Palmarium Reserve

Enjoy a walk through the forest with one of the lodge guides. Here it is possible to see a family of indri, Coquerel’s sifakas, black lemurs, crowned lemurs, black and white ruffed lemurs and red lemurs. The rest of the day is yours at leisure.

Day 7

Palmarium - Andasibe National Park

You will make your way to the renowned reserve of Andasibe. A stunning rainforest with some truly wonderful wildlife. This afternoon enjoy your first exploration of the park. For those a little more adventurous why not try your first night walk to see what nocturnal fauna and flora you can spot!

Day 8

Andasibe National Park

The haunting cry of the indri is an eerie alarm call as you wake to find yourself on the mist shrouded outskirts of the Andasibe and Mantadia National Parks. You have a full day to discover the wide variety of lemurs, reptiles and birds that reside here. One of its most famous inhabitants is the Indri - the largest of lemurs with a black and white teddy bear like appearance. Other lemurs which can be seen here are the brown lemur, lesser bamboo lemur and red-bellied lemur. On night walks through the forest you may even be able to spot some of the nocturnal lemurs.

Day 9

Andasibe - Antananarivo

One final excursion into the park this morning before transferring to Tana (approximately a 3 hour drive). A chance to relax and enjoy the facilities of your hotel this afternoon or alternatively explore this atmospheric city!

Day 10

Antananarivo - Anjajavy

In the morning transfer to the airport for the private flight to Anjajavy resort. This unique hotel cannot be accessed by road so you are flown directly to the private airstrip. Located approximately 120km north of Majunga and on the Mozambique Channel.

Overnight: Anjajavy Lodge (B, D)

Days 11-13


The next three days are at your disposal to relax and explore this unique area. Optional excursions include: water skiing, snorkelling, windsurfing, catamarans, fishing, boat excursions, visits to the local villages and a variety of walks to admire the local fauna and flora (chameleons, Sifaka lemur (Verreaux's propithecus), the bird of paradise and Cuvier's oplure (a type of iguana) and the fish eagle). The hotel also has a freshwater pool, a boutique and benefits from some excellent cuisine which is a mix of both western and Malagasy flavours.

Day 14

Anjajavy - Antananarivo

A relaxing morning prior to your flight back to Tana, where you will be met upon arrival and transferred to the airport in time for your onward flight.
