Day 1, Arrive Antananarivo

You’ll be met at the airport and transferred to your intimate boutique guest house, an oasis of calm in the bustling centre of Antananarivo.

Vibrant, alive and chaotic, Antananarivo, usually termed by its colloquial short hand Tana, is the capital city of Madagascar and its political and economical powerhouse. Located in Antananarivo Province, this commanding city is usually the first stop for visitors to Madagascar, being home to the International Airport. However, to pass through Tana without stopping to explore would be to miss out on understanding the core of Madagascar’s psyche. With a population of about 1.4 million, Tana is divided into two distinct regions; Lower Town and Upper Town. Upper Town is shrouded with purple jacaranda trees in the summer, and here you will find arts and crafts markets and intimate jewellers.

Day 2, Antananarivo – Andasibe National Park

After breakfast visit the fascinating Photography Museum in Antananarivo before continuing your journey to Andasibe National Park. In the evening you’ll visit the VOI community reserve, to take a night walk where you might spot the rufous mouse, greater dwarf and eastern woolly lemur.

Andasibe National Park

Probably one of the best lemur experiences in the world, Andasibe National Park is the best place to spot the Indri, the largest living lemur! The park is separated into two distinct areas, Speciale d’Analamazaotra (usually known as Perinet - the old name of a French nearby town and rail station) to the south, and Park National de Mantidia to the north. Created in 1989, it encompasses the same humid lush forest throughout, covered with moss and trees, peppered with over 100 extraordinary orchid species and dotted with lakes.

Day 3, Exploring Mantadia National Park

You’ll explore this beautiful rugged primary rainforest on foot. The hiking is challenging but rewarding, with the chance to see black and white ruffed lemur and diademed sifaka as well as Parsons and nose-horned chameleons. There’s also a record-breaking number of frog species to discover.

Most famous is the indri whose calls awaken weary travellers with a rush of excitement, other famous species include the ring tailed and dancing sifaka.

Day 4, Exploring Andasibe National Park

Hike Andasibe National Park, here you can find the teddy-bear resembling Indri. You can also find grey bamboo and common brown lemur amongst the fourteen lemur species found in this area. Birders will be looking out for nuthatch vanga, collared nightjar and the Madagascar flufftail.

From breaching whales and egg cup sized lemurs, to curious chameleons and the strange cat-like carnivore known as the fossa, the breadth of the diversity of Madagascar animals cannot be overstated.

Day 5, Andasibe National Park – Antananarivo

In the morning visit Mitsinjo Reserve – this is a community-based conservation project which has contributed to lemur, bird and amphibian research and monitoring, construction of a primary school, as well as ending the use of snares and logging and restoring 500 hectares of native trees. After this you’ll drive back to Tana to rest before your onwards flight.

Day 6, Antananarivo – Constance Tsarabanjina

After breakfast transfer back to the airport for your flight to Nosy Be. Upon arrival you’ll be met and transferred by car and then by boat to your private paradise islet.

Days 7-12, Exploring Constance Tsarabanjina

Over the next six days become totally immersed in your spectacular natural surroundings. The islet is blanketed with lush tropical vegetation, home to brightly coloured tropical birds and the pristine white sandy beaches lead out to turquoise waters. Kayak or paddle board around the island, and snorkel surrounded by tropical fish and turtles. At certain times of year whale sharks and humpbacks also frequent these waters. Why not treat yourselves to a relaxing couples massage with ocean views. On this romantic beach break choose from water and island activities or opt for total tranquility.
