NORDENSKIÖLD lodge details
Style
A one-of-a kind wilderness lodge coupled with a relaxed atmosphere, and unparalleled beauty on its doorstep.
Setting
Nordenskiöld Lodge is located within the inner bays in Billefjorden, on the shorelines of Adolfbukta. In the summer you can take a (approximately) 2 hour boat ride from Longyearbyen to the lodge and in the winter by snowmobile and dog sledges.
Accommodation & Facilities
The lodge boasts 5 comfortable rooms complete with 10 beds in total. Rooms have huge windows that lookout onto breath-taking views across glaciers and fjords. The lodge is basic as the focus here is on fully experiencing the Arctic. With no running water, drinking water is sourced from meltwater runoff from the nearby Nordenskiöld glacier. There is also an indoor toilet for guests to use.
Dining
All meals are available at the lodge are prepared in the wood oven by the onsite host. You can expect a hearty breakfast, a two-course dinner of traditional Norwegian fayre, and an expedition lunch whilst out in the wilderness. Specific dietary requirements can be catered for as long as they are given plenty of notice. Enjoy these delicious meals overlooking the spectacular Nordenskiöld glacier and don’t be too surprised if you get an unexpected visitor peer through the windows!
Activities
There is so much to explore in this Northern part of the world; and this can be done via boat, snow-mobile, dogsled or trekking on foot. Prepare to be astounded by the stunning and dramatic natural landscapes that will continually greet you on your travels; snow-capped peaks, frozen fjords and imposing glaciers are consistently within reach. Although never guaranteed, Arctic wildlife is never far away; seals, whales, Arctic foxes and even the mighty polar bear have been spotted in close proximity to the lodge. After a full day of exploration, what better way relax into the evening by taking advantage of the traditional Finnish sauna or the well-stocked bar awaiting your arrival!
