Days 2-10

04-12 July 2018: Exploring Svalbard

Spend the next nine days exploring the wonders of Svalbard with your on board guides, including naturalist Kate Humble, seeking out polar bears and other Arctic wildlife. Head up to the bridge to try and catch the first glimpses of wildlife before the captain manoeuvers towards the action. The exact itinerary plan is dependent upon a number of factors: weather conditions, density of the pack ice and wildlife movements. If ice conditions allow, your captain will aim to circumnavigate the stunning Spitsbergen Island. You are likely to visit spectacular ice-filled fjords with towering snow-capped peaks nearby; huge bird cliffs with colonies of thousands of sea birds and see mammoth glaciers crashing into the icy seas. As you cruise through the archipelago, look out for polar bears hunting for seals, spot colonies of walrus and watch for whales and seals in the pristine waters. Whilst on land you may encounter Arctic fox and Svalbard reindeer which, if you're lucky may pose for photographs! When not out exploring the land, Kate will offer her expertise in the form of evening chats and seminars on board. Some of the locations you may visit include Prins Karls Fjordland, Krossfjord, Monaco Glacier, Raudjorden, Hinlopen Strait, Hornsund, Edgeoya and Alkefjellet. You will arrive back into Longyearbyen on the night before your departure date, enjoying a Captain's dinner on board for your final night.
