Day by day

Day 1

Arrive Delhi - Amritsar

After arriving in Delhi, you will be met by a local representative who will transfer you to your onward flight to Amritsar. Upon arrival in Amritsar, you will be met and transferred to your hotel where you will have some time to relax following your flight. In the evening you will be taken to visit the Wagah border for the daily 'lowering of the flags' ceremony, a grand coordinated display by Indian and Pakistani security forces which has taken place every evening since 1959.

Day 2

Amritsar

This morning you will be taken for a sightseeing tour of Amritsar. Amritsar is an important religious pilgrimage centre for Sikhs, who travel to the Golden Temple to take a dip in the holy water pool. You will also pay a visit to the temple's community kitchen, where at least 80,000 people are fed every day, and to Jallianwala Bagh, the site of a memorial to commemorate the victims of the infamous massacre in 1919. In the evening, travel back to the Golden Temple to participate in the Palki Sahib ceremony, where the Guru Granth Sahib holy book is carried in a procession and 'put to bed'. The temple at night is quite a sight to behold, as it is fully illuminated and the lights reflect off the waters of the holy pool.

Day 3

Amritsar - Ambala - Shimla

Early this morning you will be escorted to the railway station to board your train to Ambala, where upon arrival you will be met and driven to Shimla (approximately 4.5 hours). Check in to your hotel and relax ready for your adventures ahead.

Overnight: Oberoi Wildflower Hall (B)

Days 4-5

Shimla

You will have two days to explore the picturesque town of Shimla, sprawled along a crescent-shaped ridge at an altitude of over 2100m. Head out on a scenic train journey through the hills to the town of Kandaghat, and explore the famous main street of Shimla, The Mall, lined with stately colonial houses. The narrow streets which fall steeply down the hillside are full of character and worth exploring, making their way to colourful local bazaars.
