Lodge Details
Style
An inspiring Camp which is intimate and personal, no mod cons but very comfortable.
Setting
On a bend in the Mwaleshi River, 10km from the Luangwa Confluence, Mwaleshi Camp blends seamlessly with the stunning landscape. Each of the chalets have fantastic river views, which in the dry season becomes shallow enough to safely bathe in. Mwaleshi Camp is one of the most remote camps in Africa and the North Luangwa is relatively untouched – you are pretty much guaranteed to see no tourists from any other camps during your stay here.
Accommodation & Facilities
The 4 thatched grass and pole chalets are build only half way up bringing the outdoor feel inside. They are reconstructed every year containing very comfortable beds, mosquito nets and en-suite flush toilets. There is no running water in the camp, jugs are provided at your hand basins and there are 2 outdoor shared showers with river views.
There is no electricity in the camp; light is provided by solar storm lanterns in the evenings, adding to the authenticity and intimacy of your experience.
Dining
Meals here combine western and African flavours and are cooked by a great chef. There is an early morning buffet and a buffet lunch, snacks are provided between the days activities. Evening meals are served either in the open sided dining area, or alfresco, under the stars next to the river.
Activities
The main activity here is walking safaris; there are vehicles that will take you to different starting locations so you can explore vast areas of North Luangwa. Walking safaris here are not demanding, usually about 3 – 4 hours and give you the chance of one on one encounters with a wide variety of wildlife, you are always accompanied by an armed game scout and skilled guide. Recommended stays here are at least 3 days, giving you the opportunity of a swimming trip up to Mwaleshi Falls, or to the Bangweulu Swamps, famous for shoe-bill stork and black lechwe.
