Zambia Walking Safari

A fantastic 11 day Zambia walking safari through the beautiful South Luangwa Valley National Park. Get up close to the wildlife and gain an understanding of the smaller parts of the African bush with some of the best guides in the industry. A truly eye opening experience as you explore the South Luangwa Valley National Park on foot with some of the best guides in Africa. Topped and tailed by the lovely Nkwali Lodge and Tena Tena Camp, this safari is perfectly balanced to provide you with a unique experience at the same time as the creature comforts that one requires.

On arriving in Lusaka international Airport you will be met by a representative who will help you check into the internal flight to Mfuwe. After you arrive into Mfuwe it is another hour drive to the lodge. The drive takes you through local villages and their crop lands as well as thick African bush.

South Luangwa National Park

Breakfast is at dawn around the campfire before you set off on your morning activity in South Luangwa National Park; either a game walk or safari drive. This area of the national park is rich in animal life and includes large family herds of elephants and the endemic Thornicroft giraffe. Tea, coffee and cake will be served at a scenic spot along the Luangwa River or close to one of the many lagoons in the area. You have the chance to relax around the pool in the afternoon before heading out on an afternoon/night drive to observe the nocturnal animals.

Each day you will walk no more than 10 kilometres along the Mupamadzi River, a major tributary of the Luangwa River. Your expert guides will be able to explain the full story of events by simply looking at the tracks in the sand; from the tiny steps of ant, to the deep prints of lion paws on the river bed. Walking safaris are more about the smaller things about the bush. The insects, tracks in the sand, animal rubbing post, the smell of the animals, it really does get all your senses going. Camp will be set up for you each day you move, and ready-and-waiting to give you your hearty lunch before more exploration of the local area. Elephant and other animals often visit the water hole and river opposite, so you can rest your legs and see the wildlife at the same time. You also have the option to go for an afternoon and evening game drive. Take some time to enjoy the spectacular Buca Buca lagoon where you can sit and watch the animals coming down to drink, and because the area is so remote you will have these scenes to yourself. You can opt for a full day excursion around the game rich area of Nsefu visiting the salt pans or visit a local village too
