Style

Rustic, comfortable and private lodgings surrounded by beautiful gardens and stunning scenery.

Setting

Near one of Costa Rica’s highest peaks, Cerro de la Muerte, the lodge is in Savegre, San Gerardo de Dota, about a 2 hour drive from San Jose heading south east on the Pan-American highway.

Accommodation & Facilities

Rooms are comfortable and en-suite, rustic in their appeal with wooden cladding on the walls and endearing artwork on the walls. Spread along the property There is a choice between Standard and Superior Rooms, both of which have a private bathroom with hot water, as well as a balcony. Additional to the Standard rooms, Superior rooms are independent units with a Jacuzzi in the bathroom with panoramic views, and a king size bed. All rooms have views to the Savegre River or the forest and all have heating for comfort during the cooler nights.

There is a restaurant, El Quetzel, a souvenir store and a conference room. There will also soon be a bar next to the river.

Dining

El Quetzel serves a combination of local and international cuisine and special menus are available for diabetics, bvegetarians and any other dietary restriction if informed in advance. The specialty is trout, caught from the pond at a mature age and freshly prepared by the chef.

Activities

Head to the lookout point for fantastic forest views, or follow the different nature trails to discover the variety in flora and fauna found here. There is also a canopy tour, a great way of viewing the forest from a different perspective. The area is fantastic for birding and, as well as Quetzels, you may also spot the silky fly-catcher, copper headed emerald humming bird, cerise throated hummingbird and the peg billed finch.
