Costa Rica Family Safaris

Everything you need to know about family safaris to Costa Rica...

Rich Coast by name and even richer by nature, Costa Rica is small country that packs a huge punch. With stacks of biodiversity, volcanoes, rainforests, and two contrasting coastlines with an endless supply of beaches, it is not surprising that Costa Rica is one of the world’s top family holiday destinations.

It’s difficult to portray the character or culture of a nation, but the ‘Ticos’ (as they like to call themselves) have done it for us. ‘Pura Vida’ is how they greet you; literally translated it means ‘pure life’, but is probably closer to ‘full of life’ or ‘this is living!’ Their infectious enthusiasm and positive attitude to life could be the reason that Costa Rica has evolved into the adventure capital of Latin America.

With a stock of adrenaline-fuelled activities on tap it will leave you and your kids gasping for air, but gasping for more!

Great Ideas with Kids

We have yet to come across a child that is not fascinated by wildlife, and with expert guides providing a true learning experience, you’ll never have to worry about them getting bored. With over 20 national parks, and plenty of private reserves you’ll never be far from nature. From monkeys to sloths, tropical birds to colourful frogs and insects to nesting turtles, it is land your young ones will never forget.

Adventure tourism has become big business in Costa Rica. It is renowned for its ‘canopy tours’ (zip-lining), but you can also try white-water rafting, abseiling down a waterfall, tubing on a river, or some downhill mountain biking. With a wealth of options available, even your youngest will be well looked after.

And after a giant dose of wildlife and adventure, what better way to bond as a family but to hit the beach. Tropically clear warm waters make for fantastic snorkelling, and with the rainforest overlooking white powdery sands, you may get a cheeky monkey joining in on your down time.

Where to stay

The tourism industry in Costa Rica has blossomed in recent times and as a result most lodges and hotels are happy to accommodate families. There are many options but here are a few to get you started. Mawamba Lodge in Tortuguero is perfectly equipped to keep your kids busy. When you’re not in search of wildlife; beach volleyball, table football, and board games will keep them on their toes. We highly recommend going to Monteverde as there is so much for kids to enjoy. El Establo is one of our favourite places to stay. Lapa Rios is a stunning eco-lodge on the Osa Peninsula; there is no better place to be at one with nature.

Kids can also plant a tree and name it, or take part in the Kids Rainforest Tour! For a relaxing beach time we also love Punta Islita on the Nicoya Peninsula.

Costa Rica’s tourism sector is probably the most advanced in Latin America.  Moreover, we ensure that all our guides, accommodation and transportation conform to the very highest safety standards.

Years of experience means that ‘Ticos’ lead the way in terms of customer service and you and your family will always be in safe but entertaining hands.
