The Reserva do Ibitipoca is a private nature reserve spanning over 3000 hectares, centred around a traditional farmhouse building which contains the lodges eight guest rooms, restaurant, spa and sauna. The reserve was established in 1981 with the aim of restoring the native flora and creating wildlife corridors with Ibitipoca State Park, but was only opened up to guests in 2009.

Setting

The reserve is located in the Brazilian state of Minas Gerais close to Ibitipoca State Park, several hours drive north of Rio de Janeiro. 

Accommodation & Facilities

The lodge’s eight guest rooms are contained in an 18th century farmhouse building, each of which is stylishly decorated with locally produced handicrafts and bespoke furniture. All rooms have king-sized beds and an en-suite bathroom complete with Victorian-style bath and underfloor heating.

The lodge also features a restaurant, spa, sauna with hydro-massage pool, stables and its own private airstrip.

Dining

Traditional Brazilian cuisine is served in the lodge’s restaurant and is prepared using locally-sourced ingredients. Guests can choose to dine privately or communally. Breakfast and lunch are served buffet-style. 

Activities

The reserve encompasses a wide variety of different landscapes, which can be explored on foot, horseback, bicycle or 4 x 4 vehicle along the estimated 200km of trails that snake their way throughout the reserve. The lodge is also ideally located for exploring the stunning scenery and waterfalls of the nearby Ibitipoca State Park.
