After just a year of construction, Chan Chich (meaning ‘little bird’ in Mayan) was opened in 1988, helping protect the heavily looted temples as well as discouraging hunting in the area.

On Gallon Jug Estate, within the largest contiguous forest north of the Amazon basin.

Accommodation & Facilities

Around the lodge’s 2 main buildings, the 12 thatched cabanas are thoughtfully furnished with local hardwoods and each have large wrap around, private veranda. Bathrooms are private and hot water is available 24 hours a day, as is electricity. These are available as either standard or deluxe, the latter with a luxurious bathroom, large walk in closet and personal mini bar. The Villa has 2 bedrooms with king size beds, air conditioning, a lounge with a bar and 2 outdoor living areas; one with a Jacuzzi and outdoor shower. This unit comes with a golf cart for your personal use around the lodge.

The main buildings include a restaurant, well stocked bar, gift shop and reading room, as well as a front desk. There is a swimming pool and Jacuzzi as well as hammocks for some peaceful relaxation.

Dining

Meals are delicious and uses very fresh produce to create Belizean and international cuisine.

Activities

For those who like walking the lodge is idea, with expansive trails to explore for over 9 miles. This can be done alone with the use of maps or on a guided tour. Vehicles can transport you to various areas of interest in the area such Laguna Seca, the upper Escarpment, Sylvester Village and Laguna Verde. Day trips to La Milpa are also available in the Rio Bravo conservation area. Guests may also ride horseback on guided tours through jungle trails or Mayan sites or canoe on Laguna Verde, where you might see turtles or crocodiles. Chan Chich is known for being a great place for birders with over 350 recorded species.
