What to expect

Cockscomb Wildlife Sanctuary

Enjoy a privately guided tour of the Cockscomb Wildlife Sanctuary and a lesson in natural history of the area, with a chance to spot elusive wildcats, primates and incredible birdlife. If you feel like having a refreshing float on the river after your hike in steamy jungle, you’ll be able to float downstream at a relaxed pace on inner-tubes.

Caracol & Rio Frio Cave & Pools

Located deep within the Chiquibul Forest Reserve, Caracol is the largest known Maya site in Belize and one of the biggest in the Maya world. It used to be a centre that covered over 55 square miles and an estimated population of around 180,000 people. After a picnic lunch at the ruins you will head to the Rio Frio cave and after, you’ll be ready for a swim in the fresh water pools.

Mountain Pine Ridge

Arrange for an early morning bird-watching tour with an expert guide, head out on another jungle excursion or spend the day enjoying your lush surroundings and a having a dip in the river.

Orange Walk District

Travel through a variety of landscapes until you reach your lodge on the vast Gallon Jug Estate. Part of this journey is on an unpaved road, but the reward is worth the effort as you settle into your comfortable accommodation, listening to the chirrups of the surrounding forest. Built on ancient mayan sites, this property is home to acajou, monkeys, toucans, wildcats and more.

Gallon Jug Estate

There are around 9 miles of trails which can be hiked with the aid of a guide from the lodge. You may also want to take some vehicle excursions, including visits to the wetland habitat at Laguna Seca or even visit La Milpa, which is a Mayan site located nearby. Large birds, deer, monkeys and all five feline species - jaguar, puma, ocelot, margay and jaguarondi - have all been spotted on the estate. Included activities range from birding tours, general nature walks, vehicle tours to various landmarks around the estate.

Accommodation Highlights

Turtle Inn

Owned by Francis and Eleanor Coppola, Turtle Inn was swept away soon after it was purchased by Hurricane Iris. Taking 2 years to restore, this is now one of the most popular beach resorts in Central America, and in such close proximity to pristine beaches, own pool and a naturally luxurious style, it’s not surprising! Featuring 25 individual thatched hideaways for guests, cooled by the ocean.

Gaia River Lodge

Sitting atop the magnificent Five Sisters Falls in the Mountain Pine Ridge Forest Reserve, the facilities here make use of naturally sourced materials, although guests are not deprived of modern amenities, such as Wi-Fi. The 15 rooms are split into various options, each one offering a unique experience and a unique view: waterfall, jungle or mountain.
