Day 5: Caracol & Rio Frio Cave & Pools

Today you’ll enjoy a full day visiting the ruins of Caracol and Rio Frio caves and pools. Located deep within the Chiquibul Forest Reserve, Caracol is the largest known Maya site in Belize and one of the biggest in the Maya world. It used to be a centre that covered over 55 square miles and an estimated population of around 180,000 people. After a picnic lunch at the ruins, you will head to the Rio Frio cave which is more like a naturally formed tunnel than a cave.

Day 6: Actun Tunichil Muknal (Cave of the Stone)

After breakfast at the lodge, you’ll be collected and head out to the Actun Tunichil Muknal "Cave of the Stone Sepulcher", one of the most impressive caves in the Maya lowland. Located in the heart of the Belizean Rainforest, this cave was a sacred place to the pre-hispanic Mayas of Belize, who first began to use the entrance during the early classic period (300-600AD.) The cave system consists of a series of chambers, ending in a 300 by 50 meter Cathedral where sacrificial ceremonies once took place. On the tour, you will drive to the trailhead and trek for 45 minutes through dense jungle in the Tapir Mountain Nature Reserve, wading across three streams and learning about the flora and fauna of the jungle.

This morning, en route to Belize City Airport, you’ll head to Jaguar Paw Cave where you’ll set yourself afloat on tubes through a series of caves which periodically open up to the sunshine & jungle. You’ll also enjoy an exhilarating ziplining experience at the park flying over the river and treetops. The entire tubing and ziplining tour will last approx. 7 hours and you’ll have lunch included at a local restaurant. You’ll then continue on 1 hour to Belize City Airport where you’ll take a short flight over to Ambergris Caye.

Days 8 - 11: Ambergris Caye

With 4 days to fully explore and unwind in the tropical paradise of the beautiful cayes, we recommend discovering some of the marine life that includes manta rays, nurse sharks and dolphins. Popular sites include Hol Chan Marine Reserve and Shark Ray Alley, and you can either dive or snorkel the waters. The pristine beaches of Ambergris Caye are some of the most unspoilt in the Caribbean and there is also a Mayan ruin on Ambergris itself.
