Combine the biodiverse rainforests of the southern Amazon with the wetlands of the Pantanal, two of the most wildlife-rich regions on Earth. Starting off in the Amazon, you will spend three nights at the stunning Cristalino Lodge, named by National Geographic as one of the best eco-lodges in the world, exploring the meandering forest trails in search of primates, birds and other wildlife. Travel south along the Transpantaneira Highway to the Pantanal wetlands, where you will head out on boat safaris to discover the wildlife of this unique ecosystem. Along with capybaras, caimans and giant river otters, the Pantanal is best-known for jaguars, which can be observed hunting and relaxing on the water’s edge.
Today you will arrive in Sao Paulo, where you will catch a short connecting flight to Cuiaba and onwards to Alta Floresta, deep in the Amazon Rainforest. You will be met at the airport by your guide who will transfer you to your lodge, where the rest of the day is yours to relax following your flight.
Overnight: Cristalino Lodge (D)
You will have two days to experience the sights and sounds of the southern Amazon, home to wildlife such as tapirs, giant anteaters, monkeys and macaws, while staying in the incredible Cristalino eco-lodge. Optional activities include a visit to the 50-metre high canopy tower, from where you will have a bird's eye view over the rainforest, or a boat ride along the Cristalino River. You can also hike along one of the many trails that snake their way through the forest, passing through various habitats, or simply relax and enjoy your surroundings at your lodge.
Overnight: Cristalino Lodge (B, L, D)
This morning you can enjoy a gentle hike along the Tapiri Trail, frequented by white-whiskered spider monkeys, before your transfer to Alta Floresta for your onward flight to Cuiaba. Upon arrival, you will be met by your guide and set off along the Transpantaneira Highway to the northern Pantanal, stopping en route to observe the families of capybaras, caimans and water birds of the Panatanal.
After breakfast this morning, continue your journey southwards along the Transpantaneira Highway towards Porto Jofre, keeping an eye out for jaguars and other wildlife along the way. On arrival in Porto Jofre you will catch a boat upstream into the heart of jaguar country. After lunch at your lodge, you will head out on a boat safari in the surrounding wetlands in search of jaguars, capybaras and giant river otters.
Overnight: Southwild Jaguar Suites (B, L, D)
Spend the next three days traversing the wildlife-rich waterways of the Pantanal Wetlands, enjoying two boat safaris per day along the Three Brothers, Cuaiba and Piquiri Rivers. While usually elusive, Jaguars can often be seen sunning themselves on the river banks during the heat of the day, and this is the best area in the world to see these cats in their natural environment.
Overnight: Southwild Jaguar Suites (B, L, D)
This morning you will travel back downriver to Porto Jofre, where you will be met and transferred north along the Transpantaneira Highway. Overnight at the Southwild Pantanal on the banks of the Pixaim River, where you will have the opportunity to head out on another wildlife viewing excursion from the lodge.
Overnight: Southwild Pantanal (B, L, D)
Today is your final day in the Pantanal; transfer back to Cuiaba airport for your flight to Sao Paulo, where you will catch your international flight home.
A tailor-made safaris is one designed specifically for you, around your taste, budget, people travelling, interests and more. This itinerary is just an example and can be refined and changed to make it perfect for you
