Lewa & Laikipia Walking Safari

This immersive safari to the wildlife-rich plains of Kenya gives you the opportunity to explore the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy and the Laikipia plateau by jeep, on foot, and even by camel! Starting off in the savannah and acacia forests of Lewa, you will join your expert guide for game drives in the conservancy, looking out for wildlife including lion, leopard, African elephant and the endangered Grevy’s zebra and black rhino. From here you will travel to the scenic wilderness of eastern Laikipia, where you will discover the rugged landscapes on walking safaris in the company of a Masai tracker. Accompanied by riding camels, you will be able to explore areas that are inaccessible by vehicle, providing you with a truly authentic and peaceful safari experience.

Day 1

Arrive Nairobi

Upon arrival in Nairobi, you will be met by a local representative and transferred to your hotel. Spend the rest of the day relaxing in preparation for your upcoming safari.

Overnight: Hemingways Nairobi (D)

Day 2

Nairobi - Lewa Conservancy

Today you will be driven to your lodge in the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, ideally situated on the slopes of Mount Kenya overlooking a waterhole that attracts many game and bird species. The Lewa Conservancy stretches over an area of open savannah, acacia forests and semi-arid desert and is known for its commitment to conservation activities.

Days 3-4

Lewa Conservancy

Spend the next few days exploring Lewa Wildlife Conservancy, heading out on game drives across the savannah in search of wildlife including endangered Grevy's zebra, lion, leopard, elephant and black and white rhino. You can also explore the conservancy on foot on a guided bush walk, visit one of the local Maasai villages, or simply relax by the poolside.

Day 5

Lewa Conservancy - Laikipia

Today you will depart the Lewa Conservancy and be driven to Tumaren Camp, right in the heart of the Kenyan bush. Upon arrival at your camp, enjoy a refreshing lunch and rest before heading out on a walk in search of game. In the evening, relax with a sundowner as you watch the sunset before returning to camp for dinner under the stars.

Days 6-7

Laikipia

You will spend two days exploring the wilderness of the Laikipia plateau by foot or camel, setting out in the early mornings looking out for herds of zebra, gazelle and oryx accompanied by an experienced Masai tracker. The camp uses pack camels to transport the entire campsite and your luggage as you go, allowing you to access areas that you cannot reach by vehicle and giving you a more peaceful and authentic experience. Afternoons are spent relaxing at your camp or fishing on the banks of the Ewaso Nyiro River, before heading out in the evening for another gentle walk and sundowners.

Overnight: Tumaren Camp (B, L, D)

Day 8

Laikipia - Nairobi

Today you will fly back to Nairobi where your safari ends. Alternatively you may like to extend your safari into the Maasai Mara or some beach relaxation on the Kenya Coast or the island of Zanzibar.
