the best places to go on safari in october
For those of you that missed the polar bears in Svalbard between June and September, now is the time to head out to Arctic Canada. October is the start of polar bear season in and around Churchill and along the shores of Hudson Bay. Over the next few weeks and months, a number of polar bears make their way down to the Churchill area in anticipation of the Hudson waters freezing over so they can then set out across them to search for seals, their main source of nutrition. This wildlife spectacle occurs during the months of October and November, be careful though that you don’t go too early or late as one moment the bears are there and the next they are gone.
This is also a great time to see the dramatic northern lights (or aurora borealis) which is a hidden highlight of any journey to the frozen north.
