October is hot but it is one of the best game viewing times in Botswana. With limited water sources throughout the Bush, the game congregates around what little water there is, making their movements much easier to predict and sightings much easier. Having said that, the heat can have a rather lazy effect on the wildlife as it can literally just be too hot to move – to this extent, make sure you get up early and make the most of early morning game drives and also late afternoon and evening night drives as this is when the wildlife will be more active, waking from its sleep to set off in search of prey. South Africa is also a good bet at this time of the year and provides the perfect extension to a safari in Botswana. Head to the Kruger National Park and its surrounding private reserves where you can expect to experience some world class game viewing.
