What to Expect

During the five-hour flight from Cape Town, the African night turns to the Antarctic day as we soar over thousands of icebergs and pass into 24 hours of continuous sunshine. You will be met upon arrival to the ice runway and taken via specially modified 4x4s to the incredible Whichaway Camp where you can settle into your warm and comfortable ‘pod’. Activities range from gentle treks to exploring the incredible ice waves, to ice climbing and even abseiling into crevasses! On quieter days, there will be talks from the polar explorer staff and guides about some of the lesser known history of Antarctica and their world record breaking expeditions.

The Atka Bay Emperor Penguin Colony

Fly 2 hours across the high polar plateau delivering spectacular vistas of this beautifully barren landscape before reaching the colony which is home to over 6000 birds and their chicks. A land unfrequented by humans means these majestic birds have no fear of man. You will stand where few have stood before and watch as their curiosity draws them closer and closer to you. You will have the pleasure of filming, or capturing your very own ‘March of the Penguins’.

Activities in Antarctica

Explore the ice waves beneath the camp, delving into the series of ice tunnels that are as surreal as they are beautiful. You’ll want to photograph every moment of this experience, but remember to take it in without looking through the lens of your camera! Then you’ll be off on an Arctic Truck safari, winding your way through the snow and ice to an incredible vantage point where you can take in the panoramic view over the waves that you have just explored.

Leave early in the morning in a Basler BT-67 aircraft, flying over stunning mountain ranges before landing at 83° South to refuel. After a walk on the High Polar Plateau we will continue to the South Pole, where you will have plenty of time for photos and a chance to stamp your passport before flying back to 83° South and overnighting in the great wilderness of the Plateau.

After a night spent camping and a hearty breakfast, before boarding the plane once again for the 7 hour flight back to Whichaway camp. The flight is the perfect chance to really appreciate the immense scale of Antarctica, before you return to camp for a three-course dinner and some champagne to celebrate your achievement.

An adventurous hike along a winding cliff face affords guests stunning views over pressure ridges of ice that have been folded over millennia by the ocean. The world-class mountain guides will lead you on this challenging hike, ensuring your safety at all times.

Whichaway Camp

Become one of only a few guests to ever stay at the most luxurious camp in the Polar Regions. The camp has a very easy and friendly feel to it and is run to strict environmental guidelines to minimise the impact on the environment. Accessible only by private charter flight, and with space for just 12 guests in six luxury sleeping pods.
