Crossing the Antarctic Circle

A 13-14 day trip to the great white land of Antarctica, which will hopefully take you further south than most people ever reach, with a host of wildlife viewing opportunities on the way. The coldest, driest, and most remote continent on earth, Antarctica will take your breath away. Sail pristine waterways, cruise along in comfortable Zodiacs, and walk on shores where legendary explorers once stood. Your expedition ship will transport you in comfort, and your expert expedition team will delight you with stories of penguins and icebergs.

Safari Highlights

  • See penguins, seals, and whales as you sail through pristine waterways.
  • Test your photography skills and find new ways to capture curious penguins.
  • Be one of the few people to say they have crossed the Antarctic Circle.
  • Enjoy the absolute silence of the wildest continent on earth.

What to expect

Arrive and explore the sights of Ushuaia, the southernmost city in the world, such as the museums and Argentinian leather markets. In the afternoon, you will be transferred to the pier where we will warmly welcome you aboard the ship. Get settled into your spacious suite and explore the ship that will be your new home during this expedition. You will received introductions and informative briefings from your expedition staff. After your first welcome dinner, step out onto the open decks to admire the scenery and gorgeous evening light whilst passing through the Beagle Channel.

Crossing the Drake Passage

After passing the islands of Tierra del Fuego, we turn south to begin our crossing of the Drake Passage. Watch out for humpback and fin whales along the way. The majestic wandering albatross and other graceful sub Antarctic seabirds are common in these waters and can readily be viewed from panoramic open decks and balconies. We will also cross the Antarctic Convergence, the biological boundary of the Southern Ocean.

South Shetland Islands & Antarctic Passage

As you sail south with the intention of crossing the Antarctic Circle, the landscape becomes wilder and more spectacular. The goal will be to sail into Martha Strait or Marguerite Bay, but will be dependent on ice conditions. As you head north again, you will be able to marvel at the icebergs which resemble sculpted works of art, as well as the colossal tabular icebergs which dwarf the Zodiacs as you sail past them. You’ll of course want to spend some time with the abundance of penguins which call Antarctica home, as they hop and wander across the beaches, sometimes coming right up to you as you sit in awe.

As you sail north again across the Antarctic Convergence, you’ll have some time to reflect on the experience, or watch the seabirds swoop around the decks as you get closer to Ushuaia. Enjoy a final dinner and slideshow on board as you sail into the Beagle Channel.
