about the M/V Plancius
This large vessel spent the first years of her life, from 1976 to 2004, as an oceanographic research vessel for the Royal Dutch Navy. This adventurous start means that, even though it has now been completely rebuilt to accommodate travelling guests, it is completely ice strengthened. The bow and stern have been strengthened and the hull is thicker, as well as having extra frames and support so it can push its way through stubborn floes, getting you closer to the action.
Expeditions on the M/V Plancius are not overly luxurious, as most of your time will be spent on the shores exploring, however you will have ample space. Cabins all have private showers and toilets, and there is a wonderful bar with panoramic views for some spectacular time up on deck…
The wildlife around you will remain undisturbed as the silent vessel, thanks to its 6 blade bronze propeller and diesel/electric propulsion system, glides past.
