Before setting out, guides typically provide a briefing on what to expect and safety protocols. You’ll be equipped with a flashlight and possibly night-vision equipment.
Exploring the Rainforest
As you venture into the rainforest, your guide will lead you along trails, pointing out various nocturnal creatures and explaining their behaviours and habitats. The experience is both educational and thrilling.
Common nocturnal animals in Costa Rica include:
Frogs and Toads: Such as the vibrant, red-eyed tree frog.
Reptiles: Including various species of snakes and lizards.
Mammals: Such as the black-headed night monkey, kinkajous, olingos, and occasionally, the two-toed sloth and armadillos.
Insects and Arachnids: A variety of spiders, beetles, and other insects.
Birds: Night birds like owls and the common pauraque.
