Playa Cativo offers an immersive experience right in the heart of Costa Rica’s rainforest. This luxury lodge is accessible only by boat, and offers stunning beachfront accommodation in a relaxed setting, while also allowing adventurers to explore the many waterways and winding paths through the lush grounds.

The lodge is surrounded by biologically diverse and unspoiled rainforest, while the staff run a number of research programs right on site within 1,000 acres of private land, surrounded by the 35,000 acres of Piedras Blancas National Park. This park is critical for an estimated 750 species of tree, 140 species of mammal, 367 species of bird, 117 species of reptile and almost 10,000 species of insect.

Accommodation is in spacious open-air guest rooms with spectacular views of the ocean and the surrounding tropical gardens.

This is a luxury beachfront lodge. All rooms are stylish and spacious, with an open-air design.

Located on the calm waters of Golfo Dulce, within the Osa Peninsula, surrounded by lush rainforest.

Accommodation & Facilities

The lodge boasts just 18 spacious guest rooms, with a range of views from tropical gardens to the ocean. Luxury rooms offer spacious bathrooms with rain showers, as well as biodegradable bathroom amenities to lessen environmental impact. Rooms are stylish in décor, and feature large panoramic windows. The lodge also features an organic farm (where produce is grown before making its way to the restaurant), a library and business centre, a biological research station and nature reserve, an adventure centre, and a spa with a freshwater pool.

Dining

The El Gavilán Restaurant has a romantic setting with views of the ocean, perfect for dinner at sunset. The restaurant offers an à la carte menu, fine dining and a premium wine and cocktail selection. For a more relaxed meal, El Gazebo Sunset Bar has views over the tropical gardens and is located next to the pool. Offering a great selection of drinks and local cuisine, it’s a great spot to relax after a long day exploring.

Activities

During your stay, activities include kayaking through the mangroves, whale and dolphin watching, nature hikes, birdwatching, night walks, paddle boarding, hiking, fishing, cooking, and learning about the nature research conducted on site. The lodge has ongoing research permits to study the different flora and fauna of the rainforest, including the Wildcats Monitoring Program, Coral Reefs Restoration Program and the Mammals & Birds Population Program.
