Setting
Set on the banks of Anavilhanas, the world’s largest fresh water archipelago, the lodge is touched by the Rio Negro (Black River) and lies within a vast stretch of untouched rainforest.
Accommodation & Facilities
All accommodation at Anavilhanas is air-conditioned and tastefully furnished. The 16 suites include fridges, balconies and bathrooms with hot and cold water. The four luxury bungalows are located on a hill above the suites and feature king size beds, 32 inch LCD TVs, mini-bars and balconies with views over the Rio Negro and National Park. The architecture at Anavilhanas Lodge is in keeping with the regional tradition; hay and suspended wooden structures are found throughout, and contemporary designs constructed in natural materials bring a homespun feel to the lodge. The deck and pool area overlook the river and are shaded by trees, creating the perfect environment for relaxation. There is a small floating deck for a river diving. The lodge also features a reception/ bar area, a library with comfortable chairs and gaming tables, and a restaurant set amidst trees.
Dining
The food is excellent at Anavilhanas Lodge – the menu consists of a blend of classic traditional dishes and international cuisine, carefully prepared and served with impeccable presentation.
Activities
At Anavilhanas Lodge, it’s possible to swim with pink river dolphins, hike or canoe through the forest with expert local guides, fish for piranha and go caiman spotting at night. Guests can also choose to try bow and arrow practice with real Waimiri-Atroari Indian’s weapons, visit local communities and handcraft studios in Novo Airão and take excursions or sunrise and sunset safaris to local river beaches (Available from September to March).
