8 DAYS FROM 11250 PP
Best time to go
dec - feb
This expedition is great for those with a limited amount of time, combining a short flight between Punta Arenas and the Chilean Frei Station on King George Island, with a ship cruise along the Antarctic Peninsula. The coldest, driest, windiest and most remote continent on earth, here you will explore vast icy seas and meet the unique wildlife from zodiacs and on foot on this 8-day itinerary. Explore ice-filled fjords and cruise among spectacular icebergs, visit vast penguin colonies and have the opportunity to stand on the continent of Antarctica (conditions permitting). As with many of our safaris in the Polar Regions, flexibility is the key and your exact itinerary will depend on nature and weather conditions.
A wonderful way in which to explore Antarctica without having to transit the notorious Drake Passage crossing, avoiding the roughest seas and saving time travelling to Antarctica. You will fly to King George Island before boarding your expedition ship and exploring the Great White Continent.
Day 1 - Arrive Punta Arenas, Chile
Arrive in Punta Arenas, Chile, where you are welcomed by our guides and transferred to a comfortable hotel. In the afternoon, attend a briefing that provides important information about the voyage and reviews the essential guidelines for Antarctic visitors. In the evening guests gather for a welcome dinner, where you will meet your fellow adventurers while enjoying a typical regional menu. Please Note: Expedition members should plan to be in Punta Arenas before 14:00 hours, at the latest. (D)
Day 2 - Punta Arenas - King George Island
Your Antarctic adventure begins with a two-hour flight from Punta Arenas to King George Island, located in the mountainous and wildlife-rich South Shetland Islands, just north of the Antarctic Peninsula. You will now be able to explore the area surrounding Chile’s Frei Station and Russia’s Bellingshausen Station, before boarding a zodiac to board your expedition ship which will be home for the following days. (B, L, D)
Days 3 - 6 - South Shetland & The Antarctic
Cruise between the South Shetland Islands and the western coast of the Antarctic Peninsula, sailing along ice-filled fjords and among spectacular icebergs, while enjoying the company of seabirds, penguins, seals, and whales. Each day disembark by Zodiac and explore the landscape together with expert polar guides. On board the ship, attend an engaging program of educational presentations, and enjoy spectacular views from the lounge while sharing your daily adventures with fellow guests. No journey is the same and flexibility is the key to success in Antarctica. The Expedition Team plans the voyage route to take advantage of the ever-changing opportunities provided by nature, crafting a unique and extraordinary experience every time. While the exact itinerary changes with each expedition, you will explore several sites that offer the best possible overview of the varied Antarctic environment. Your voyage may include visits to sites in the South Shetland Islands, the Antarctic Sound, the Gerlache Strait, and the Penola Strait. (B, L, D)
Day 7 - King George Island - Puntas Arenas
