A stunning safari through the natural heartland of Borneo, on this exciting trip you'll walk the forest canopies of Danum Valley, take in the diverse fauna and flora of the Kinabatangan River, as well as the orangutans of Sepilok. Your final stop is the pristine beaches and stunning snorkelling of Gaya Island.

Day 1

Arrive Kota Kinabalu

We’ll ensure you're met on arrival at Kota Kinabalu Airport, then you’ll be transferred to the sumptuous Shangri-La Tanjung Aru Resort.

Day 2

Kota Kinabalu - Sepilok

After an early breakfast you will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Sandakan where you will be met and transferred to your jungle lodge. After lunch you will visit Labuk Bay Proboscis Monkey Sanctuary to see these fascinating and rather humorous primates. After the sun sets, you have the option to take part in an exciting night walk in search of Borneo’s nocturnal critters.

Day 3

Sepilok Orangutan Sanctuary

After breakfast, take a short walk to the Orangutan Rehabilitation Sanctuary to witness their morning feeding. It is captivating to watch as these large red apes are astonishingly gentle, highly intelligent and will gaze at you with almost disconcerting frankness. Again, this evening, you will set off into the jungle for another wild nocturnal walking safari.

Day 4

Sepilok - Abai

After check out, you head to the Sepilok Orang-utan Rehabilitation Centre for another chance to witness their morning feed. You will also get to visit the Sun Bear Conservation Centre to understand more about these adorable bears, the smallest and least known members of the species. This afternoon, you will travel to Sim Sim Jetty in Sandakan to make your transfer across the bay and into the mouth of the Kinabatangan River.

Day 5

Abai - Kinabatangan River

Wake up to the calls of nature and take an early morning river trip to Pitas Lake to observe the wonderful wildlife. After breakfast, you are invited to join our tree planting project with the locals and enjoy a simple lunch arranged by the villagers at Abai Village. This afternoon continue up the river to Sukau Village in search of wild orangutans, birds and pygmy elephants.

Day 6

Gomantong Caves

This morning you visit the Gomantong Caves in the 3,924 hectare Gomantong Forest Reserve. Wild orangutans, mouse deer, wild boar and wild buffalo can sometimes be spotted here, and up to 300,000 bats, consisting of 64 differing species, are thought to live in the caves. In the afternoon you head out onto the river to explore a variety of fauna and flora along its fauna-rich banks.

Day 7

Kinabatangan - Danum Valley

Today you make your way south to the renowned Danum Valley. On arrival at your rainforest lodge you will have time to sit back and relax and enjoy the surroundings. Danum Valley is one of the best remaining examples of how Borneo's forests used to be, with a thick tropical canopy and a variety of wildlife.

Days 8-9

Danum Valley

Danum Valley is home to lots of incredible wildlife, from orangutans and elephant, to the rare clouded leopard and Sumatran rhino. Explore canopy walkways and a spectacular viewpoint with dramatic views, scour for wild inhabitants and enjoy a prime example of how Borneo’s jungles used to be. In the evening, dine on the exquisite food on offer at the lodge, before embarking on an exciting night drive in search of nocturnal animals.

Day 10

Danum Valley - Gaya Island

It is now time to retreat to paradise for some well-deserved relaxation on the beautiful Gaya Island. After breakfast transfer to Lahad Datu for your short flight to Kota Kinabalu where you will be met and taken to Jesselton Point for your boat to your beautiful island resort on the beach.

Days 11-13

Gaya Island

Enjoy your time at Gaya Island by taking part in the myriad activities here, designed to help you reconnect with the natural world. Explore miles of forested trails and ancient ecosystems, practice making local handicrafts or try your hand at cooking. To relax, lay by the pool, use the spa, try some beach yoga and meditation, or just float above the coral with a mask and snorkel.

Day 14

Depart Gaya Island

Today you will be transferred back to Jesselton jetty by boat and then by road to Kota Kinabalu in time for your international flight back home.
