Exclusive Endangered Species Fly-In Safari

An incredible 9-day safari discovering some of the endangered animals of Kenya, including cheetahs, elephants, wild dogs and rhinos. Accompanied by a professional guide throughout, at each location you will meet and hear from conservation specialists who spend their lives protecting these species. The trip includes scenic flights in an executive aircraft over some of Kenya's most beautiful areas.

Travelling aboard an executive Cessna Grand Caravan aeroplane, on this unique safari you will learn about the conservation efforts surrounding some of Kenya’s most endangered animals while experiencing stunning views of the landscape from the air. Learn about the work of the Mara-Meru Cheetah Project and the Northern Rangeland Trust, and witness important research to help in the conservation of African elephants. Accompanied throughout by an expert guide and joined at each location by wildlife and conservation specialists, you will have the opportunity to truly discover some of the incredible but threatened wildlife of the region, including lion, cheetah, African elephant, African wild dog, Grevy's zebra, and the critically endangered black rhinoceros.

Day by day

Day 1

Nairobi - Masai Mara

Upon arrival in Nairobi, you will be met by our local representative and board your executive Cessna Grand Caravan, your transport for the duration of your safari. Sit back and relax as you enjoy a scenic flight over the Great Rift Valley to the Keekorok airstrip in the Masai Mara National Game Reserve (approximately 45 minutes). Upon arrival you will be greeted by your private guide and driven on a game drive towards your lodge. In the late afternoon, head out on another game drive in the private Siana conservancy, before enjoying a sundowner as you watch traditional Masai dancers.

Day 2

Masai Mara

Today you will have a full day in the Masai Mara Game Reserve. You will be joined by Elena Chelysheva from the Mara-Meru Cheetah Project as well as David Mascall, whose Light for Life project aims to protect lions and other wildlife from conflict with humans by building specially designed lion deterrent systems. You'll be be able to learn about how these organisations contribute to the conservation of big cats, while the professional Masai safari guide will help you to discover the rest of the incredible wildlife living in the reserve. You will also have the opportunity to visit a local Masai village, before returning to your lodge in the late afternoon.

Day 3

Masai Mara - Laikipia

This morning you will depart the Masai Mara in your executive Cessna Grand Caravan and set off towards Laikipia (approximately one hour), experiencing stunning views from the air as you fly over the plateau to your next camp.

Day 4

Laikipia

Today you will have a full day exploring the Laikipia Plateau, known for its diverse and abundant wildlife. Departing early in the morning with your expert guide, track African wild dogs using telemetry equipment, and perhaps witness the excitement of a hunt. The Laikipia plateau has one of the largest populations of wild dogs in Africa, although numbers are still in decline. In the evening you will have another game drive with the wild dogs and a sundowner, followed by dinner and a talk from your wild dog expert.

Day 5

Laikipia - Lewa Wildlife Conservancy

Another early start this morning as you head out on another game drive in search of wild dogs with your expert guide. After lunch you will depart Laikipia and fly to the world famous Lewa Wildlife Conservancy (approximately 25 minutes), a UNESCO World Heritage Site and award-winning conservation area, best-known for its work in protecting white and black rhinos and the rare Grevy's zebra.

Overnight: Lewa Safari Camp (B, L, D)

Day 6

Lewa Wildlife Conservancy

Depart your camp early this morning for a game drive in the Lewa Wildlife Conservancy. Visit the conservancy headquarters to learn about the work of the Northern Rangeland Trust and their conservation efforts across Kenya, in particular their work protecting the critically endangered black rhino within the conservancy. Scientists Ian Lemaiyan and Mary Mwololo will also be on hand to share their respective knowledge of the park's rhinos and Grevy's zebra, while tour experienced guide will be able to help you spot some of the other wildlife found in the reserve, including lion, leopard, elephant and buffalo. Just watch out for aardvark holes while you're walking!

Overnight: Lewa Safari Camp (B, L, D)

Day 7

Lewa - Samburu Game Reserve

Today you will depart the Lewa Conservancy and embark on your private charter flight to Samburu National Reserve (approximately 15 minutes away). Enjoy spectacular aerial views and a low-level flight over the Ewaso Ng'iro river, which draws in abundant wildlife to its banks to drink. Upon arrival at Samburu Simba Oryx airstrip, you will be met by your driver from Elephant Watch Camp and embark on a game drive to encounter the reserve's famous elephant herds. This camp is the home of influential elephant conservationist Saba Douglas Hamilton, and just seven kilometres away lies Save the Elephants' research centre, built two decades ago by Hamilton's father. Upon arrival at camp you will be met by the team of resident experts and head out on another afternoon game drive into the reserve.

Day 8

Samburu Game Reserve

Join the team from Elephant Watch Camp in the reserve today, assisting with important research on the behaviour and dynamics of the 66 African elephant families here which is critical to their conservation. You'll be able to learn about the elephants' life cycles, migratory routes and considerable level of intelligence, as well as how the research team here track and monitor these magnificent mammals. Samburu Reserve is home to many other wildlife species, including lions, cheetahs, over 350 bird species, and the endangered Grevy's zebra. While here, you will also have the opportunity to observe the colourful dancers of the Samburu tribe.

Day 9

Samburu Game Reserve - Nairobi

Rise early this morning for your final game drive in the reserve with your elephant expert guides. Today you will fly south, passing over Mount Kenya, to Nairobi (approximately 55 minutes), where you will be transferred to the airport in time for your international flight home.
