Borneo in December

December weather & where to go

December in Sabah means less rain then November, but a high chance of thunderstorms. Dry spells are likely in the southern parts, but this is not the best time to explore everything Borneo has to offer.

In Sarawak there is high rainfall which lowers visitor numbers, but it is not easy to travel and we do not recommend travel to Sarawak at this time.

Whilst travel to Borneo is possible in December, it is not the best time to go with rain and thunderstorms likely. If you must travel Borneo in December, then the best places to consider are the Kinabatangan River and Danum Valley where dry spells can mean excellent trekking.

We haven’t forgotten it is Christmas in December, so spirits around Borneo are festive, this can mean higher visitor numbers than warranted by the weather in some cases and areas.
