The Melapi restaurant is on the jetty overlooking the river, often providing viewing of wildlife while dining. The restaurant has western/authentic Asian fusion cuisine using local produce and food from their organic garden in salads, and can cater for gluten free/vegan diets. Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served as buffets. Automatic private dinners are provided for honeymooners.
Sukau Rainforest Lodge has many activities to choose from, mainly focusing on boat cruises along the Kinabatangan River which embark three times a day to cover all of the wildlife’s different prime viewing times. At the back of the lodge there is the Hornbill Boardwalk which is built along the local elephant migration route and a number of informative talks and presentations can be attended. There are also optional activities that specialise in seeing certain animals such as the “Orang-utan & Langur Trek” and the “Elephant Search”. If inclined, you can even stay at the lodge and try your hand at Batik painting, have a massage or learn some local cooking.
Children are welcome at Sukau Rainforest Lodge.
Environmental standards are very important to the Sukau Rainforest Lodge which has its own code of practice. The lodge donates to Borneo Ecotourism Solutions & Technologies (BEST) which benefits the local community through conservation projects and is also involved in a tree planting programme in which guests are welcome to participate. The tour boats are equipped with silent electric motors which are used when getting close to the riverbank so as not to disturb the wildlife.
