A warm and rustic safari lodge, decorated in traditional Ugandan wood carvings and fabrics.
Situated to the south of Bwindi Forest National Park, perched on a ridge overlooking the forest and the Virunga Volcanoes.
Accommodation & Facilities
Accommodation is comprised of 12 chalet-style rooms, scattered throughout the lodges gardens. This includes six Virunga Terrace rooms with en-suite bathroom and terrace, four private garden cottages with their own veranda and stone fireplace, and one two-bedroom villa which is ideal for families or small groups. All rooms offer scenic views over the surrounding rugged landscapes and are colourfully decorated with local carvings and printed fabrics.
The main lodge also features a bar, restaurant, coffee shop and gift shop selling handicrafts from the Nkuringo Youth Initiative Foundation.
Food is served in the lodge’s restaurant, and consists of fresh fruit, homemade soups and hearty four-course dinners. Room service is also available.
The lodge is ideally situated for gorilla tracking in Bwindi Impenetrable Forest, home to nearly half of the world’s population of endangered mountain gorillas. Guests can also head out for a walking safari or nature walk in the surrounding forest, go on a birdwatching tour or a canoeing excursion on Lake Mutanda. The lodge also offers guests the opportunity to meet the local Nkuringo community, visiting the local primary school and sampling the local cuisine.
Children are welcome at the lodge, but must be over the age of 15 for the gorilla tracking.
The lodge is entirely carbon neutral, running off solar energy and harvested rain water. The lodge also runs a number of local community projects with Nkuringo youth and women's groups.
