Each of the Indian Ocean islands is slightly different in October with the Seychelles and Mauritius being particularly warm and dry.

October weather and when to go

The Seychelles in October are fantastic as the trade winds have died down by this time and water temperatures remain around 29 degrees meaning you won’t want to get out of the water. This is a great time for an Indian Ocean honeymoon in the Seychelles.

The islands of the Maldives are mostly warm and dry throughout October but there is an increased chance of rain. It is not the main peak season for the Maldives which means you may secure better hotel rates and have some beaches to yourself, but the weather could be unpredictable.

October is the driest month of the year in Mauritius with highs of around 26 degrees making it great for sitting out on the beach all day. As the temperatures seldom go over 35 degrees it won’t be too hot to enjoy outdoor activities such as nature walks and hikes around the island.

Although October isn’t the optimum time of year to see humpbacks in Reunion, it is a good time for hiking on this island. Whether your journey takes you up to the Piton de la Fournaise (“Peak of the Furnace”) or around the numerous waterfalls on the island, the landscapes won’t disappoint.
