Located at 12,795 feet, Salkantay Lodge & Adventure Resort takes its name from the sacred most sacred peak in Inca mythology, which stands tall at a spectacular 20,500 feet. Welcoming you with a hot tub and fantastic views of an enormous glacier-cloaked mountain, this luxurious weigh station is on a lesser known route to Machu Picchu. Located between Humantay Peak and Salkantay Peak, it sits in Peru’s Soraypampa Valley, on an unspoiled landscape of towering peaks and alpine grasslands.

In the Soraypampa Valley, between Humantay and Salkantay Peaks, this is on the Salkantay Trail, an alternative route to Machu Picchu.

Accommodation & Facilities

There are 12 double or twin rooms, each with private bathrooms with hot and cold running water. With a funky orange exterior, this lodge sits snugly in the valley, with wonderful views out to this stunning area of Peru. There is a cosy reading room and an outdoor hot tub, as well as a fire-warmed living room in which you can enjoy a tasty pisco sour at the end of a hard days trekking.

Activities

Enjoy trout fishing, horseback riding and stunning views of Salkantay, the regions highest peak. There are other hiking options here too, from climbing t the summit of Salkantay Peak to less strenuous walks to glacial lakes. You can also go rafting at the Rio Blanco or go mountain biking. This is the base lodge from which you will start the Salkantay route to Machu Picchu. This is a lodge based trek to one of the world’s most intriguing wonders, not just for those that don’t want to sleep in tents after a hard days trekking, but for those who want to really take it all in.
