Today you will fly into Soekamo-Hatta International Airport, Jakarta, where you will be met and transferred the short journey to your hotel. Here you will have time to relax following your flight, or explore the bustling capital city.

Day 2

Jakarta - Kalimantan

This morning you will be transferred to the airport for your flight to Kalimantan. Upon arrival at Pangkalan Bun Airport you will be met by your local guide and driven to the nearby port of Kumai, where you will board a traditional riverboat, known as a Klotok. You will sail for approximately two hours along the Sekonyer River to Tanjung Puting National Park, comprising over 400,000 hectares of mangrove swamp and dense rainforest, where you will spend the afternoon searching for the park's resident orangutans and proboscis monkeys, as well as the other primates and numerous birds, lizards and mammals that call these jungles home.

Day 3

Camp Leakey

An early start this morning as you head upstream to the Sekonyer River, and travel along the aptly named Crocodile River to Camp Leakey, enjoying a picnic lunch en route. Established in 1971m Camp Leakey is a renowned orangutan research and rehabilitation centre located in the heart of Tanjung Puting National Park. Spend some time looking around the centre and meeting some of the local rangers, as well as watching the afternoon feeding of the orangutans. You will also have the option to head out on a short trek into the surrounding jungle before heading back to your Klotok.

Day 4

Pondok Tanggui Trekking

Following breakfast on board, you will sail downriver to Pondok Tanggui, the site of another Camp Leakey post. On arrival, head to the feeding station to observe more of the endangered 'kings of the jungle'. In the afternoon, you will embark on a four hour trek into dense primary rainforest to your campsite, where you will be spending the night. Along the way you may encounter wildlife such as orangutans, gibbons, wild pigs and deer; this is 'real' rainforest and definitely not for the faint-hearted!

Day 5

Pondok Tanggui - Peselat

Wake up to the sounds of the forest and breakfast around the campfire, before hiking back to your riverboat. Cruise further downriver to Pesalat Reforestation Camp, where you will be able to participate in a tree-planting project, helping to grow the forest for future generations.
