Puma Tracking Safari in Patagonia

Track Wild Pumas in Torres del Paine

Few places offer the opportunity to observe wild pumas quite like Chilean Patagonia. Against the dramatic backdrop of Torres del Paine, this exclusive six-day small-group safari takes you into the heart of puma territory, where expert trackers help you follow the movements of one of South America's most remarkable predators.

October marks the arrival of Patagonian spring, when longer daylight hours and changing seasonal conditions bring new life to the landscape. Working closely with a dedicated tracker who heads into the field ahead of the group, you'll explore the park's valleys, grasslands and rocky hillsides, looking for pumas as they move through their natural habitat.

With just a small group of guests, there's time to observe wildlife without rushing, whether you're photographing a puma moving across the steppe, watching guanacos grazing beneath the mountains or spotting an Andean condor soaring overhead. Your guides bring years of local experience, helping you understand the behaviour of the animals and the wider ecosystem they inhabit.

Your base is EcoCamp Patagonia, where comfortable geodesic domes sit amongst some of the region's most spectacular scenery. Between early starts and afternoon tracking sessions, return to camp for good food, warm hospitality and time to enjoy the extraordinary surroundings.

Days 2–4: Puma Tracking in Torres del Paine National Park

Spend three days tracking wild pumas through the spectacular landscapes of Torres del Paine. Your dedicated tracker heads into the field before sunrise, searching for signs of activity and relaying sightings to your guides by radio.

Early starts allow you to make the most of the morning light, when wildlife is often more active. Explore the park's valleys and open grasslands, scanning rocky slopes and guanaco herds for signs of pumas. Along the way, look for culpeo foxes, Andean condors and other native wildlife.

You'll generally spend around four hours tracking in the morning before returning to camp for lunch and a short rest. Afternoon excursions continue into the evening, with opportunities to photograph wildlife and the dramatic mountain scenery around Salto Grande and the Cuernos del Paine.

With approximately eight hours in the field each day, there is plenty of time to observe animal behaviour and work on your photography, supported by experienced guides. Every day remains flexible, with movements determined by the pumas themselves.
