A whimsically designed, rustic beach lodge
On the relatively undiscovered Alankuda Beach, set on a 2 kilometre long beach near Kalpitiya. About two hours from the airport and 3 hours from Colombo.
Accommodation & Facilities
There are two different types of accommodation here, two spacious 2 bedroom villas and seven large cabanas with a separate living area. Each accommodation is uniquely styled, set just back from the beach. Villas have a huge amount of space, with plush beds and deep sofas that can be converted into extra sleeping space, great for families or big groups. In the Thala Villa, each room has a private garden rain showers and in the Samara Villa, the showers are powerful waterfalls. The cabanas are rustic and beautifully spacious, with thatched roofs and wonderfully rustic, often homemade, bits and bobs just lying around.
There is a restaurant which overlooks the Indian Ocean, a huge 40 metre pool, lit like stars with fibre optics and a water-sports club. The informal ambience in the entire lodge is simply captivating and the atmosphere inimitable.
The restaurant serves a delicious curry buffet or barbecue each evening, as well as a small a la carte menu.
The coastal waters here offer myriad activities. Kite-surfing school is open from May to October, outside of these months (November to April) is great for dolphin and whale watching, yet outside of this season you will be informed if some are seen and taken out to explore. There is also fishing, diving, snorkelling and cycling, as well as wind surfing, sailing, kayaking and canoeing available from the Alankuda Beach Club. Waterwing and donut rides can also be booked. There are numerous excursions that can be organised from Bear Reef Resort as well, from visiting Wilpattu National Park and the Bar Reef, to Bird Watching, Lagoon Tours, visiting forts and more.
