Jalakara details
Style
A new boutique hotel that combines modern design with a bohemian atmosphere.
Setting
Surrounded on all sides by lush rainforest, Jalakara is located in the centre of Havelock Island, a small tropical island which forms part of the Andaman Islands archipelago.
Accommodation & Facilities
There are just six suites at Jalakara, each spacious and individually designed, with large king or queen-sized beds and ensuite bathrooms. The Tower Room has stairs leading up to a private roof garden, with panoramic views over the forest and surrounding ocean, while the Garden Room's glass screen doors open onto a private verandah and garden. The Sky Room, located on the roof of the hotel's main villa, has glass panelled walls offering 360˚ views of the island, and its own private balcony.
The Sunset Suites accommodate up to four guests each, with screen doors opening onto a private verandah facing west; perfect for watching the sun setting while relaxing in the suites hammock. The romantic Garden Suite includes its own secluded garden and al fresco bath tub, and is decorated with antique colonial fittings. The hotel also has a completely private villa, featuring a lounge area with open kitchen, private yoga deck and copper infinity pool.
The hotel's main area encompasses an infinity pool overlooking the rainforest, massage suite, dining area and lounge bar.
Dining
Breakfast, lunch and dinner are served in the hotel dining area by the pool, and include fresh seafood, house baked bread and tropical fruit, which is also used in the creation of Jalakara's signature papaya and coconut curry.
Activities
There are a number of activities on offer at the hotel, whether you want to relax by the infinity pool or join a relaxing morning yoga session. The onsite spa offers deep tissue and aromatherapy massages and restorative reiki treatments. The small size of Havelock Island means that you are never more than a 15 minute drive away from the coast, and there are a number of stunning beaches on the island. Snorkelling and diving are popular activities, with abundant fish and coral reefs around the island, and equipment can be borrowed from the hotel. Jalakara also offers guided walks into the island's rainforest, home to some spectacular flora and birdlife.
