Setting
The Tides Lodge is located amongst the palm trees the on a tranquil beach near the town of Pangani, in North-Eastern Tanzania. This remote lodge is set apart from other hotels and lodges, so guests can enjoy complete privacy in this tropical paradise.
Accommodation and Facilities
There are private light and airy cottages which are located along the beach front. You can walk out onto your private veranda overlooking the sea or enjoy sunbathing in this secluded, private area nestled amongst the palm trees. Enter your cottage to the sweet aroma of the fresh tropical flowers which are replaced every day, and feel your toes upon the cool stone floor which lines the cottage. You will find a spacious en-suite bathroom with solar heated hot water, organic local soap, and a comfortable king-size bed with high quality cotton bed linen. The cottages boast modern interiors, accented with dark wooden furnishings and brightly coloured fabrics.
Ideal for families and small groups is the two-bedroom Family Hibiscus House, which is situated along the beachfront and can accommodate up to six people. With its own dining area, lounge, and private beach area this is the ideal choice to enjoy one another’s company in your own private space. Another choice for those who desire extra privacy is the sumptuous Upepo Suite, which is spread over two floors in the beautiful gardens of the lodge. Ideal for honeymooners, this stylish house boasts wooden decked balcony for you to take in the stunning views over the Indian Ocean, covered veranda and private sunbathing area. The house is spacious, with an eclectic mix of soft furnishings brightening up dark wooden furniture and floors, giving it a warm and welcoming atmosphere. All of the accommodation at the lodge has air conditioning to keep you cool in the tropical climate.
The lodge has its own pool, beach bar, restaurant and shop. There is also an activity base which offers a range of activities for guests to enjoy.
Dining
The cuisine at The Tides Lodge is of a very high standard. Dishes are made using locally-sourced, fresh ingredients and herbs are grown on-site. The lodge also caters for those with special diets – chefs will discuss options with you to ensure that your dietary needs are met daily.
Activities
There are a wide range of activities available at The Tides Lodge. Nearby Maziwe Island allows for some incredible snorkelling and diving experiences, where you can discover the unspoilt coral gardens. Diving experiences are arranged independently from the lodge by Kasa Divers. You can take advantage of the lodge’s kayaks, specifically for guests’ use, and glide through the clear waters whilst enjoying the tropical setting. Another way to enjoy the tranquil sea that surrounds you is to try your hand at dhow sailing, or for those with more experience, take out one of the Laser dinghys. For wildlife lovers, the truly incredible opportunity to witness baby turtles hatching is available. Watch these creatures break out of their shells and scuttle down the beach into the sea.
A fantastic way to explore the surroundings is to hire a bike and cycle to the local villages, and for those who wish to learn a little more about the local culture, there are historical walking tours of Pangani and the nearby fishing village. The Tides Lodge is not far from Saadani National Park, which is the only National Park in Tanzania which borders the sea. This allows it to showcase both marine and mainland fauna. You can take a game drive, go on foot safaris, or take a boat trip up the river to see wildlife such as black and white colobus monkeys, green turtles, flamingos and crocodiles.
