Lodge Details
Style
An upmarket, stylish camp, perfectly situated deep inside the Selous Game Reserve.
Setting
Set in the heart of the Selous Game Reserve, Sand Rivers overlooks a wide curve in the Rufiji River. It has a reputation as one of the best camps in Tanzania with great accommodation and guiding.
Accommodation & Facilities
Sand Rivers has five standard rooms and three suites with plunge pools - one of which, Rhino House, has a separate, private kitchen.
The lounge and dining area are situated in a thatched ’boma’ which opens onto the edge of the Rufiji River. The soft furnishings are comfortable with cushions, large sofas and chairs. A mix of white washed and stone walls, carved wooden furniture and African decorations, give a rustic yet homely and relaxed atmosphere.
The open-air curved swimming pool sits under a large baobab tree and affords panoramic views of the river and wilderness beyond.
Sand Rivers also has a small curio shop selling a wide variety of souvenirs.
Dining
The food at Sand Rivers is excellent, with first-class service.
Activities
Safaris operate in 4x4 vehicles, exploring the plains and lakeshores of the reserve. Motorboat trips up the towering Steigler's Gorge are offer, as are downstream boat safaris, to view hippo and crocodiles.
Other activities available include walking safaris, fishing, or a relaxing soak in the Tagalala Hot Springs.
Sand Rivers also has a nearby hide – raised up on stilts, and overlooking a large permanently wet marshy area which offers impressive wildlife viewing.
Child Policy
Children under the age of 6 are not accepted.
Responsible Tourism
With an environmental consciousness, Sand Rivers are constantly working towards making the lodge more eco-friendly.
