Matemwe Lodge has a beautiful position on a coral outcrop, slightly away from the local fishing village. Featuring luxury accommodation, great dive sites and beautifully landscaped gardens, this romantic retreat is ideal for honeymooners and families alike. 

This exclusive resort has just 12 thatched bungalows, 6 old and 6 new – both with their benefits according to taste. The older rooms are more private with luxurious deep baths, good for couples wanting a more secluded feel. The newer rooms have a second mezzanine floor with a second double bed, more suited to a family or larger group.

Location

Matemwe Bungalows are located on the north east coast of Zanzibar and are ideal for to sitting back and relaxing after your Tanzania or Kenya wildlife holiday. Secluded white sand beaches shared only with the occasional fisherman are ideal for the relaxation needed after the early morning starts of the last week or two...

Accommodation & Facilities

Matemwe Lodge is located on a coral outcrop, surrounded by pristine beaches. Each of the 12 bungalows has been Locally constructed with private verandas, hammocks and couches and look out over the Mnemba Atoll. King size beds (with mosquito nets), en-suite bathrooms, deep bath tubs and walk in showers are as standard and 6 of the newer bungalows have a mezzanine floor with a second double bed as well as a sunken cushioned Baraza, ideal for families on safari. The bathrooms here are fantastic with a double basin, stone bath and shower and a flush toilet. The older rooms have just the one basin, but have a deep and romantic bathtub! These are also a little more secluded than the newer rooms, great for honeymooners.

There are 2 swimming pools, an infinity pool with spectacular views across Mnemba Island which has a little waterfall to another pool below. It is at this lower pool you will find the bar, made from a dhow, with plenty of seated and shady areas for those wanting to get out of the sun. There is also a Moroccan style chill out area and the open air restaurant is the perfect place to laze away the afternoon after enjoying the morning sunshine...

Room service is 24 hours and there are also 2 day rooms available for those who have checked out in the morning but would like a shower and bed for the day.

Dining

Guests usually dine in the open sided restaurant near the infinity pool, with great views over the ocean. Fresh ingredients such as fish and salad are used; there is a small bar for drinks and a buffet counter which is used for breakfast and lunch mainly.

Activities

Matemwe has a variety of activities on offer aside from lazing on the beach! Activities include snorkelling, scuba diving, local village visits to explore the surrounding area, local spice tours and days to enjoy the historic town of Stonetown...
