About Jongomero Camp, Ruaha

About Jongomero Camp, Ruaha

Set in perhaps one of the least known National Parks in Africa, Jongomero Camp gives true secluded luxury for an unspoilt, African wilderness experience. Set back in the shady Acacia trees, in the southern most part of the Park, it is far from any other camps, providing unmatched privacy. Watch the elephants stroll down the Sand River from your veranda, or watch hippos frolic in the permanent water nearby.

This area is vast and untouched and within the 23,000km square area of land there is one of the largest species counts of large mammal.

Lodge Details

A classic, luxury tented camp.

Back in the dramatic scenery of the far south of Ruaha National Park, perhaps ones of the least visited parts of Tanzania, far away from any major cities and blending beautifully and seamlessly with its surroundings.

Accommodation & Facilities

There are 8 large tented suites with polished wooden floors, all en-suite with twin basins. Tents are on raised wooden platforms and have large thatched roofs which encompass a large private veranda, ideal for a sundowner in the evenings. To sleep in, each tent has 8 feet wide emperor beds made from dhow wood and there is hot and cold water provided through a solar heater.

The main dining and bar areas are equally as sumptuous, with soft Persian rugs on the floor and plenty of reading material to relax with. The swimming pool overlooks the Jongomero River, fully equipped with mattresses and towels.

The camp itself is not fenced off, elephant and buffalo can, and often do wander freely around.

Dining varies from campfire cooking and safari picnics to eating al fresco, under the stars or dining indoors. Meals are delicious as always with a spectacular view.

Activities revolve mainly around 4WD game drives, with just 6 people allowed per vehicle. Bird and game watching can be done from the camp from your private veranda or the pool. Fly camping and walking safaris have recently been introduced, for a closer look at nature – so you don’t miss the ‘little’ things. The camp is also equipped with a high powered telescope for budding astronomers.
