About Mala Mala Main Camp

About Mala Mala Main Camp

Mala Mala Main Camp is one of just three options within the Mala Mala Reserve. On the banks of Sand River, set among the massive indigenous trees and rolling lawns, it has been designed in a traditional safari style, keeping the ambiance of a by-gone era.

Kept relatively low-key, the camp by no means sacrifices comfort, with well designed rondavels each with bush views.

A comfortable and traditional, African safari camp

Setting

In the Mala Mala Game Reserve, an unfenced reserve next to Kruger National Park and the Sabi Sand Wiltuin in north-eastern South Africa.

Accommodation & Facilities

Accommodation is in large thatched rondavels (circular bungalows), each with a private veranda accessed via sliding glass doors, to enjoy the bush. Joined by winding paths, each rondavels is tucked into the greenery that flanks the Sands River.  Beautifully laid out and in-keeping with the African theme, each room and suite has ‘his and hers’ bathrooms, a mini bar and 24 hour temperature control. You will also find amenities such as mosquito repellent, hairdryers, a mini-safe and tea/coffee making facilities at hand.

The main lounge area is of an impressive size, complete with a historic bar – great for socialising with the other guests (max 36 at a time). There is a large deck shaded by Jackalberry trees, a library with internet connectivity and a beautiful infinity pool with views, as well as a safari boutique and small gym.

Dining

Haute ‘bush cuisine’ and sumptuous wines are serves around the log fire in the boma, advertised by the beating of African drums.

Activities

There are game drives departing everyday at dusk and dawn, the best time to see the wildlife at its most active and vehicles are limited to just 6 guests at a time for great viewing. This is big five country, so it is possible to see them all from here, as well as cheetah, wild dog and general game such as giraffe, zebra, wildebeest and a variety of antelope. There is also a ‘Junior Ranger’ program for children.

Child Policy

Children 4 years and younger are not permitted in the boma for dinner or on game drives, unless the family have booked sole use of a vehicle. Please bear in mind that this camp is unfenced. Babysitting can be arranged at extra cost.
