Accommodation & Facilities

There are 20 rooms available at River Lodge; all of which are individual, freestanding chalets raised on wooden platforms. Most of the rooms face out across the river itself with breath-taking vistas from both your main room and the bathroom. Each room is complete with a bath, indoor shower and even a river facing outdoor shower to give you a unique experience as you listen to the incredible sounds of the reserve. There is also the unique opportunity to stay in one of the lodge’s treehouses; you will be driven to your temporary home after dinner where you will be able to take full advantage of the viewing deck and enjoy the privacy of the room itself.

Dining

All of your meals are included during your stay at the Lion Sands River Lodge. Breakfast is served in a buffet style often complete with freshly baked breads and muffins, a selection of fruits, cereals and yogurts. Lunches can be organised to be enjoyed out in the bush to ensure that you do not miss a wildlife sighting because you have to return to the lodge at a certain time. Dinner is slightly more formal with a wide range of delectable desserts, light starters and filling main meals. Meals often take place on the outside deck overlooking the river.

Activities

The main focus at the River Lodge is upon spotting the magnificent wildlife which calls the reserve home. You will have the opportunity to embark upon daily game drives in both the morning and the afternoon accompanied by a knowledgeable guide. You could also visit a local Shangana village where you can learn about their culture, medicines and their cuisine. Extra activities such as hot air balloon rides and helicopter flights over the Blyde River Canyon can also be arranged.

Child Policy

Children over the age of 10 are welcome at the Lion Sands River Lodge, however it should be noted that the atmosphere is very mature and there are no specific amenities for children.
