Rwanda Honeymoon Safaris

Everything you need to know about honeymoon safaris in Rwanda

Ok, so whilst all your friends go and spend a couple of weeks on a beach in Mauritius for their honeymoon, why not do something truly different? Something that everyone will stop and stare at you when you tell them what you are going to do… (this is what happened to our MD when he decided to enjoy his honeymoon on a self-drive safari round Namibia!).

Yep, why not enjoy your Rwanda honeymoon on a gorilla tracking safari…?!

Why Rwanda for a gorilla safari? The best place to track gorillas, this is a once in a lifetime experience that you will be sure to remember. Tracking these gentle giants in the wild is a truly awe-inspiring experience as you follow them through the rainforest of Volcanoes National Park and sit with them as they groom, play, fart and sleep!

Only a few hours drive from the capital of Kigali, tracking the gorillas is easy to combine with a safari in Tanzania or Kenya and even a few days relaxing on the beach.

For the ultimate in luxury then Sabyinyo Silverback Lodge is the property of choice; only a short drive from the gorilla park you can relax in the shadow of the Virunga Volcanoes. For those that are wanting a bit more of an adventure then the luxurious eco-friendly property of Virunga Lodge is a stunning choice located at 2,300m with views over Lakes Ruhondo and Bulera and the dramatic chain of the Virunga Volcanoes in the distance.

A good quality mid-range option is the cosy Jack Hanna’s Cottage also ideal as a family safari option.

The best time to visit Rwanda is anytime other than the months of March – May and October – November! These are the rainy seasons; although this won’t affect your chances of seeing the gorillas it may be slightly more slippery underfoot.

Some of our favourite times are February and September, ideal as they are out of the peak season but avoiding the rains.
