Arctic Canada

Arctic Canada in May

May weather & where to go

As peak season begins and temperatures rise, May sees an increase in the number of expeditions taking place across Arctic Canada. Due to its extreme latitude, the sun never dips below the horizon and therefore you really have the chance to make the most of your days here.

Head up to camp on the floe edge where you will have a once in a lifetime opportunity to get up close and personal with the local inhabitants such as narwhals (the unicorns of the sea), walrus and seals.

This time of year is also a great chance to take part in snorkelling and kayaking while taking in the sights of the stunning landscapes surrounding you.

Temperatures are likely to remain below or around zero so plenty of warm layers will still be necessary but days will be bright and clear meaning photographs of the tundra and sea will be magnificent.

The weather and ice conditions will determine the day-to-day activities available to you, so it is important to be flexible but with unpredictability comes great excitement!

Despite temperatures remaining low during this month, the sun can still be powerful and with reflections off the snow and ice sunburn can be common. Try to avoid this by using plenty to sun cream, particularly on your face.
