About Kaafila Mobile Tented Camp

About Kaafila Mobile Tented Camp

Kaafila is a new one of the most unique mobile camps we have come across – fully bespoke, and completely mobile. The word ‘kaafila’ itself means ‘caravan train’ in Urdu, and the entire camp can be, as pointed out by Sophy Roberts in How to Spend it magazine, “mule-packed (if required) to reach corners of the Himalayas without roads.” A stay at Kaafila Camp takes you and your small group of chosen companions far from the tourist trails, away from the crowds, to some of the India’s most secret places.

The camp has been made as luxurious as possible, still within the restraints of a mobile camp. Expect royal colours of deep reds, and fabulous amenities giving you superb comfort. In the bathroom you will find a copper washbasin with water dispensed from an adapted milk can, and instead of a shower, two large buckets with hot and cold water.

Kaafila Tented Camp details

Style

A new, luxurious tented camp that can easily be transported around some of the most stunning, inaccessible and off-the-beaten-track places in India.

Setting

Where you are will depend on your itinerary; expect stunning vistas far from tourist trails, remote forests, evocative landscapes and more.

Accommodation & Facilities

The tents have a wonderful Indian theme, with fabrics made to reflect that in every aspect – showcasing some of great textile traditions of north India. Expect high quality furnishings and fabrics, but bear in made everything has been tailored to the camp to be mobile.

Tents have comfy bedding and en-suite bathrooms. There are no showers, but there are buckets with hot and cold water over a slatted wooden platform, which allows the water to drain into specific areas underneath. This is a time honoured Indian way of having a bath.

In the main tent, there are places where you can charge cameras and batteries as needed.

The guides are excellent, with expertise in every aspect of the areas you travel to. Expect exclusive access to remote locations, fascinating local knowledge, and access to some very interesting characters along the way.

Dining

The service and cuisine are of excellent quality.

Activities

Depending on where you are, there will be a variety of activities on offer. The camp carried fishing rods, as India’s lakes and rivers can be good for sport fishing. You’ll find some exceptional cycling and walking, as well as driving. Explore incredible architecture, discover fascinating ways of life, and overall, experience the real India in your own way.
