Rwanda Weather in December

December is an excellent time to travel to Rwanda, as the weather marks the end of the short rains, and the start of the short dry season. It is a peak month, so you’ll need to book well in advance of travel to secure the accommodation you want, and make sure you get hold of those ever-challenging gorilla tracking permits. Lodge prices can reflect the high season too.

The average rainfall drops leaving the ground much more desiccant; which means easier tracking with less mushy ground. You can still encounter rain, but it is not as likely as in the wetter seasons.

Aside from the ease of trekking this time of year and the weather, spending Christmas Day with the mountain gorillas is unbeatable, a real privilege.

If you want to spend Christmas with the mountain gorillas, please get in touch with us straight away to secure your permits. You can, of course, trek the gorillas throughout the month of December, and it should be good conditions to do so throughout the month.

Evenings in the mountains can get quote chilly, so come prepared with some warm clothing. The landscapes in Rwanda are incredible, you’ll want to spend as much time outside as possible.
