Embark on a honeymoon with a difference as you whisk your loved one away to the wildlife-rich forests of the Amazon, the Sacred Valley of the Incas (home to the famous citadel of Machu Picchu) and the picturesque shores of Lake Titicaca.
Some honeymooners are content with sunning themselves in Spain or the South of France, but others opt for something a little more adventurous. The South American nation of Peru offers both cultural and natural wonders to discover, the perfect combination for travellers seeking to celebrate a new marriage in style. On this 13-day trip you'll travel by train through the Sacred Valley, allowing you to take in the beauty of the Andean highlands through your window before arriving in the ancient Inca citadel of Machu Picchu. Also on the agenda are tours of Lima and Cuzco; activities on and around Lake Titicaca, the largest lake in South America; and wildlife-spotting among the trees of the Amazon. Throughout your journey you'll also be staying in some of Peru's best lodges, where you and your partner will be able to relax after a day's adventure.
Arriving into Peru's bustling capital of Lima, the former home of the Spanish Inquisition during colonial times, you will be met and taken to your hotel, set in the cosmopolitan district of Miraflores, which is a great place to settle into the city and enjoy your first evening soaking up the atmosphere, bars, restaurants and markets of the district’s central plaza.
After waking on your first morning and enjoying breakfast in the historic city of Lima, enjoy a day of exploration on your own terms. Why not start by taking in Lima's colonial centre, a UNESCO World Heritage Site which contains some of the best-kept colonial architecture in South America. The Plaza Mayor is the historical centre, a colourful area where you can catch the changing of the guards and gaze upon the cathedral, presidential palace and other important buildings, including convents and museums. Lima's charms definitely lie in the grandeur of her architecture. After visiting the old centre, we suggest heading to the modern districts of San Isidro and Miraflores, passing through the district of Pueblo Libre, as well as the picturesque El Olivar Park. This evening, make sure you indulge in Lima’s stunning food scene!
After breakfast, you'll commence your exciting journey into Peru's Amazon region and take your short flight to Puerto Maldonado. Here you will be met by a representative of the lodge where you'll be staying and taken to the butterfly house. Enjoy a refreshing drink and walk around the house where a variety of colourful butterfly species, all native to the Amazon, can be seen. A number of other local wildlife species also make their home here in the butterfly house, including frogs and turtles. Once check-in has been completed you will be driven across town to the port, where you will join your exciting motorised canoe transfer to Inkaterra Hacienda Concepcion, your river-based lodge located around an hour upstream from Puerto Maldonado. This is a great way to start your jungle adventure before immersing yourself in this unique environment for the next couple of days.
Overnight: Inkaterra Hacienda Concepcion (B, L, D)
Spend the next two days getting under the skin of this wildlife paradise. The range of exciting half-day excursions includes a nearby oxbow lake or the reserve's very own canopy walkway, where you can observe many species from a different perspective high up in the treetops. Most of the excursions will give you a good feel for the surrounding rainforest and will allow you to see many of the endemic species of flora and fauna, before returning to the jungle lodge to relax amidst the sounds of the rainforest.

After a final breakfast in the jungle, you will board the motorised canoe once more for your journey back to Puerto Maldonado Airport. Catch your flight to Cuzco and, upon arrival, transfer to your comfortable hotel for the night.

Today you can enjoy a free day in Cuzco, and with no activities planned you will have time to explore this fascinating city on your own terms. Explore the markets in search of souvenirs or take in one of the many optional activities available, including trekking, mountain biking and even white-water rafting. After a busy few days on the move, you may just want to sit back and relax with a good book, or take in the views in the central square.

This morning you will set off towards the Sacred Valley of the Incas, on a private full-day tour. The first stop on your tour here is Pisac Market, where the main square is packed with stands selling traditional Peruvian products made by the local people. Here you’ll find alpaca textiles, musical instruments and paintings, as well as other potential souvenirs. Lunch will be served at a local restaurant, after which you will continue to the far end of the Sacred Valley and the fortress of Ollantaytambo. Ollantaytambo was built to protect this part of the valley from invaders from the lowlands, and contains beautiful terraces and fine stonework. You'll then be taken to your beautiful lodge located at the heart of the Sacred Valley.

This morning you are to be taken to the train station in Ollantaytambo for your train ride on the Cuzco – Machu Picchu railway line, where today’s adventure begins.
