Right on a beach on the southern tip of Sri Lanka, between Matara and Galle on Weligama Bay, Weligama Bay Resort it about 143 kilometres from Colombo (taking about 3 hours to drive). In a secluded and peaceful cove, you can visit any time of year for swimming or relaxing, but the best time to see whales and dolphins is November to April.
Accommodation & Facilities
There is a range of accommodation available, all with air-conditioning, fans, TVs, internet, safes, minibars, bathrobes and hairdryers. The design of each features timber window frames, teak floors and whitewashed walls, kept clean and modern with contemporary furnishings. They all also have en-suite bathrooms.
There are 10 superior Rooms with their own terrace and seating area, then 2 Garden connected bungalows comprised of two bedrooms and a terrace. The 6 Garden Villas are right near the beach and the pool, then there are 2 Junior Suites and 2 Family Suites.
Facilities include a 20 metre pool right by the beach, a restaurant and a cocktail bar. Wi-Fi is available in the lobby and restaurant, and there is internet in every room. There is also a laundry service and DVD rental service if you fancy spending an evening in, in front of the TV in your room. There is also a spa with a range of Ayurvedic treatments.
The restaurant is right on the beach and dining is available all day, specialising in local, freshly caught seafood. You can dine in the restaurant, on your terrace, or even have a romantic meal right on the beach.
The beach and water-sports activities are the main interest point here. Whale and dolphin watching between November to April is highly recommended, and you even have the opportunity to snorkel with these magnificent creatures. All year round it is possible to go fishing, sail along the coast, enjoy beach walks or volleyball on the sand. The scuba diving is excellent, with shipwrecks and brightly colours water-dwellers. Just a little further from the resort there is a turtle farm, or you can visit the snake farm, discover spice gardens or visit the UNESCO heritage site of Galle.
