A Bit About Me

I am the newest addition to the team of Polar  Destination Specialists here at Natural World Safaris, focusing on our incredible journeys to Antarctica. Born and raised in the deep forests of Sweden, I know a lot about ice, snow, pitch black days and 24 hour sunlight and would love to share this knowledge with you. Perhaps I can even teach you how to pronounce some of the Scandinavian names and places you will come across on your extraordinary journey into the wild..!

Growing up, I often dreamt about bustling cities, tropical beaches and spicy food, and since then these dreams have become my two biggest passions - food and travel!

My passion for different cultures and places has taken me to over 40 countries on six amazing continents. Like many of you, I am yet to tick the seventh continent off my list!

Q & A With Tina

Where have you travelled to in the last 12 months?

I've put my feet in a total of 21 countries over the past 12 months. From Australia and New Zealand to southeast Asia, northwest Europe and Scandinavia. It's been a good year!

Where are you planning to travel in the next 12 months?

Hmm... 2018 was going to be a no travel year for me since 2017 was all about travel. Problem is, I’m already daydreaming about my next trip…

What is your first travel-related memory?

Most travel-related memories from my childhood include a loud singing family, a tent, a blue minibus and many long miles on Swedish roads. Back then I didn’t appreciate the endless castles I had to visit, but now I am happy that my parents showed me every corner of the country so I can travel abroad instead!

Aisle or window seat?

Window! I am the most boring company on flights. I may even hold the world record of most hours spent sleeping in economy class.

Do you have any travel habits or rituals?

The mandatory spider check. I always turn the bed inside out before I get in. Even in Sweden and England.

What are you most likely to splurge on while travelling?

Local coffee! I love coffee and enjoy trying the local way of drinking it although I don’t enjoy coffee with sugar which is often an issue.

What’s your favourite thing about working at NWS?

The constant supply of baby animal photographs!

What do you like doing outside of NWS?

The obvious one would be cooking and yes, I spend most of my time cooking, planning what to cook, watching cooking shows, looking at pictures of food, buying new kitchen appliances etc. When not eating/cooking I enjoy growing my own food and dreaming of a self-sustainable life in the country side. One day!

If you could do just one NWS safari, which one would it be?

This is the most difficult question but the answer has to be Arctic Canada to see the mother polar bears and their cubs. Aww…

Is there a standout destination in your mind?

Siberia. It has always intrigued me but I am yet to go.

What is your best travel souvenir?

A recipe! I’ve been invited to quite a few restaurants kitchens around the world and often leave with a handwritten recipe of everything from Italian pizza base to Indonesian peanut sauce.

What is the best travel advice you have received?

To walk everywhere (!) It is all about what you find along the way, not just the place you are heading too.

What is your spirit animal?

Lorna inspired me to take an online test for this one. The answer? A hummingbird. Apparently the hummingbird symbolises the enjoyment of life, lightness of being and ability to express love more fully in daily endeavours. I like that! Just like this little bird, I like to travel great distances, although I am yet to master the skill of flying backwards.

What is your favourite thing about working in Brighton?

I lived in Manchester between 2011-2015 and had the pleasure to do some work in Brighton. Since then it has been my favourite place and living here was the reason I relocated back to the UK!
