Q & A With Nathan
Where was your last trip?
Barcelona – I love that city!
Where is your next trip?
Svalbard aboard the M/V Kinfish.
What is your first travel-related memory?
I remember multiple trips to the south of France at a very young age, taking the ferry to Calais, stocking up on stubbies for the adults, and sweets and anything to keep the kids quiet! Unfortunately the most vivid memory is listening to Simply Red on repeat on the long drive down… iPods came too late. But then comes the beautiful scenery, weather and food.
Aisle or window seat?
Aisle – I need the leg room and like to have a walk around when possible.
Do you have any travel habits or rituals?
A pre-flight drink, usually followed by a run to the gate!
What are you most likely to splurge on while travelling?
Accommodation, I can’t face another hostel and have been spoilt with some beautiful hotels.
What’s your favourite thing about working at NWS?
Being in the middle of Brighton with so much going on and being right by the beach.
What do you like doing outside of NWS?
As I'm fairly new to the south coast, I love to explore all the beachside towns, the South Downs and just anywhere new. I’m a football fan so try to fit in some game-time when possible too.
If you could do just one NWS safari, which one would it be?
I would love to go on any of the ‘Swimming with…’ trips, I think because of the unknown factor. Saying that, you can never stop discovering new places and I love discovering more and more of Latin America.
Is there a standout destination in your mind?
Antarctica. The destination is so unique, it’s incomparable to anywhere else. Pictures, words, videos don’t do it justice, there’s just no way of explaining the feeling of being in Antarctica without being in Antarctica!
What is your best travel souvenir?
I’m not one for buying local handicrafts and bracelets, so I’d have to go with photographs. I love to look back over travel photos to trigger some incredible memories.
What is the best travel advice you have received?
How lost can you get?! As in it can’t go that wrong, rather than it being a challenge!
What is your spirit animal?
I’m thinking a penguin – pretty bad balance, uncoordinated, but not a bad swimmer.
