Q & A With Gemma
Where have you travelled to in the last 12 months?
My last trip was a road trip from New York to New Orleans and across to Miami, the best part was buying cowboy boots in Nashville and line dancing with real life cowboys!
Where are you planning to travel in the next 12 months?
Hopefully to Svalbard to hang out with polar bears on the MS Freya in May……
What is your first travel-related memory?
My first memory of ‘traveling’ is on a family camping trip to Dorset, it rained the whole time and whilst I was busy doing cartwheels to keep busy, I managed to slip and nearly break my arm, ending up in Dorset A&E!
Aisle or window seat?
Window seat every time! I love watching the ground disappear as you prepare for your next adventure….. (plus I have been known to sleep very well in a window seat!)
Do you have any travel habits or rituals?
A Peroni at the airport.
What are you most likely to splurge on while travelling?
Experiences! I went to see an ice hockey game in Chicago and it was the best 100 bucks I have ever spent!
What’s your favourite thing about working at NWS?
I enjoy being able to send people away on incredible, once in a lifetime trips where they will experience unbelievable wildlife viewings, creating memories and stories that will stay with them forever.
What do you like doing outside of NWS?
I love a hula hoop jam on Hove lawns, I also enjoy creative writing and am currently writing a short novel.
If you could do just one NWS safari, which one would it be?
I would love to see polar bears, narwhals and belugas in arctic Canada so the Baffin Island & High Arctic Discovery safari would be insane!
Is there a standout destination in your mind?
Anywhere in the high arctic! The ice glaciers are literally breath-taking!
What is your best or worst travel souvenir?
My nautilus shell from Nanuku Island in Fiji.
What is the best or worst travel advice you have received?
Pack your backpack with everything you ‘need’ and then halve it!
What is your spirit animal?
An arctic fox
