Where have you travelled to in the last 12 months?
I’ve been lucky to go to a few places, including Abu Dhabi, Iceland, Austria, the Maldives, Singapore, Northern Ireland, Canada (Yukon), Alaska (Sitka), Sri Lanka (Colombo) and Indonesia (Bali, Java, Sumatra).
Where are you planning to travel in the next 12 months?
Hopefully somewhere to go skiing in the winter.
What is your first travel-related memory?
When I was 7, my mum, dad, brother and I went to visit my aunt and uncle in New York City and Saratoga, where they live. This included my first attempts at snowshoeing, ice skating on a frozen lake and skiing in New York state, which I wasn’t very good at! But I loved the snow so much I just wanted to be out in it all the time.
Aisle or window seat?
Window! (Unless the trip is over 7 hours, then I’ll consider an aisle.)
Do you have any travel habits or rituals?
I like to keep a rough diary of everything I’ve done and a list of everything I’ve paid for/how much it was.
What are you most likely to splurge on while travelling?
Exciting activities/experiences. Some examples of things I've splurged on are eco-trekking/hiking, a conservation day spent with rehabilitated elephants, and a stay on a private island (owned by a hostel company) in Halong Bay.
What’s your favourite thing about working at NWS?
Well I haven’t been here long, but everyone seems very friendly and passionate!
What do you like doing outside of NWS?
I haven’t lived in Brighton long, so at the moment, exploring and researching places to go. I also like to plan personal travel trips that I would like to go on and improve my photography skills. I also need to learn to drive.
If you could do just one NWS safari, which one would it be?
I would have to say the Svalbard Photography Safari with Andy Mann.
Is there a standout destination in your mind?
For places that I've visited, it has to be Alaska, for my interests in hiking, photography and the wildlife we encountered whilst there, including bears, whales and otters – it was incredible!
For a place I haven’t visited, I would love to visit the Polar Regions, specifically Svalbard.
What is your best travel souvenir?
I don’t have a specific travel souvenir but the images I’ve taken of orangutans, bears and the Northern Lights (to name a few) are very special to me.
What is the best travel advice you have received?
Don’t just go to the popular places, research in depth and talk to locals because often there’s a place that’s just as cool, but it’s off the beaten track and a little harder to get to. Totally worth it though.
What is your spirit animal?
What is your favourite thing about working/living in Brighton?
I’ve only been living here three weeks, but I like the fact that it has pretty much everything you might need, and of course, it’s close to the sea!
